Well since you netted 2 hits I'd be willing to say you could use the other service to have it use it's edge, as you made a specific request in such a manner that it could be argued as a specific request, all while keeping it in character no less. If you really want to keep the second service I suppose RPing the whole thing well might be grounds as well (As I did find the initial summoning post to be amusing).

@Darkon: I think that means that you get to write another long and amusing post (I enjoyed it too), use both services, and then roll the dice yourself.

It was my intention that Darkon only uses once service, and then, if the special request would not have used up both services, he would simply have released the spirit.

By the way, while writing that post I got an idea of why spirits would struggle in a symbiotic relationship as shamanism should be, compared to mages. It's not so much they resist the summoning or the shaman, but they need to find a way through to this side of reality. It would explain why they sometimes are less exhausted (can give more services) than other times, but still imply a willingness of the spirit itself.

I like that way of thinking, and it's definitely in line with how I play Sha'hGrim. Perhaps Darkon should explain that to her some time, and they can have some "Magic Knowledge Bonding" discussing the vagaries of that idea.

Another way of thinking is that the Shaman is "buying" service from the Spirit; and that the Spirit uses the Magic that the Shaman invests in the link for it's own purposes. With this idea, if the Spirit isn't in the mood, then the "price" would be higher (it resists better).

That is a good theory too. And just as practicable. And yes, maybe they should chat about magic theory from time to time. When they have time. But at this time, time is running tight.

Thanks Jagger. It was fun to write it. Weird enough, I hadn't intended Darkons spirits to look like comic figures. But it seems they do. At least for now. I had the idea the spirit takes it's appearance from the subconscious minds of the metahumans surrounding the spot of summoning. I guess the goon is into that kind of girl.

I think she was just confirming the question in your post about the target being 9 boxes of damage.

Speaking of healing injuries I never quite understood why magical healing is treated as having to take the whole sum of damage instead of just part (and capping the spell at that level as there is no such thing as 'over healing') though I suppose it's intended as a balance issue? Given that magical healing is also impacted by essence etc and it is a near instant effect compared to tech.

In 3rd ed the drain for the healing spell depended on the essence of the injured. And the drain level set how much damage would get healed. Now it's just how many boxes are healed. Which is more convenient for runners. Though the old ruling makes sense too.

Ah yes, I found it in the spell category description. Each point of essence lost due to implants and the like give a -1 die pool modifier for healing. I completely missed that part until now.

That only affects magical healing (which is the relevant point, I know.) Using medkits and other mundane medical equipment works regardless of Essence loss.

Yes but the trade off is that medkits etc basically only reduce the time it takes to heal, rather than heal injuries instantly as far as I know. I'm pretty sure it's also a separate test to 'stabilize' an individual in overflow where as magic healing is an all or nothing affair (You either fail to heal them, or heal them X boxes and they are stabilized by the healing that's done)

The well apportioned Magical combat medic would actually use the Stabilize spell first, and then use Healing. It is actually the one and only exception to the rule which requires Healing to be one-shot. By using Stabilize, the Magician may heal all the overflow damage first in one spell, dealing with Drain for the DV-2 of the overflow damage, and then may attempt the next round of healing without the extra burden of managing the drain of the overflow damage with the rest of the healing needed. Because of this, Stabilize can be an extraordinarily useful spell, though it is highly limited as it works only on overflow damage.

Yeah, most people ignore it because, again, it's only available for overflow damage. We 'Runners typically assume that by the time someone gets to overflow damage, it's likely already too late. An assumption with ample defensive evidence! So Stabilize tends to be the "long-shot" spell, costing build points or karma when they could be used elsewhere, and thus it's only taken by a magical combat healer specialist.

Ok, I'm working on a Dream Sequence "fluff post" but it will take me some time to put it all together. Other than that, please don't wait on me to post IC... Sha'hGrim, as posted in Darkon's post, will be headed directly to bed. And she'll be out for a solid 4 hours (until the truck heats up enough to wake Jenny - then she'll "poke" Sha'hGrim to come and cool the animals off.

I don't know if she can achieve it. But I think it should be possible with either concealment or elemental control. Something a force 3 spirit should be able to do. But Kesslan rules on this.

On another hand, I am not ignoring the leads, like the orc. But for Darkon this is a logical first step. And finding his girls is paramount to him. But the mystery of that tatue is not forgotten, so don't worry.

By the way, if I'm dictating the course of action too much, Gala, or better Sha, will have to speak up.
