What's rarer still is the people with the higher grades to have the Magic stat to go with it.

I have always wanted to do a martial arts technomancer. He would take advantage of the Resonance Trodes echo and subdual combat to grab hold of somebody and nuke their brain with the Black Hammer. However, this character would require a few grades of Submersion to be viable. Things like Skinlink->Resonance Trodes; Overclocking->Advanced Overcolocking, Multiprocessing->Mesh Reality and Macro; or Biowires->Acceleration; and of course Widgets are great for every techno. With a larger amount of BP available, and Submersion allowed at character generation, some of these things become possible.
Hackers, however, aren't much better off than they are at standard chargen. They have access to rating 6 programs and room in availability for Optimization. However, the next step, using the rules from War!, has an availability of 28! For one more die! They still only have access to rating 5 hardware, as well, but they can use that one higher-rated gear for a Battle Buddy with R7/S6. That's not your problem, though, just some of the funky mundane hacker rules.

Submersion will be allowed as well, I just have to look over the rules for the costs etc. I'm still not done with the CG rules for this game, among other things which is why I've been telling people not to CG characters just yet until I actually say I'm done mucking with things.

Anyone else looking to make a magically active character for this?

That also includes adepts and mystic adepts. An initiatory group doesn't need to be only one kind of Awakened. Though it'd be kind of irritating if an actual dragon snuck in among us.....

I'm pretty sure you don't need to worry about dragons sneaking in. I'm sure most dragons keep to their own circles and self initiation.

True enough. But back to the original point: An initiatory group is a group of magically active(Adept\Mystic Adept\Magician) people who decide to get together due to common interests and make initiation easier on each other. Much like shadowrunners. And in a group with multiple magical runners, the group is actually more likely to form an initiatory group, simply because it's easier that way. They can get more powerful, and cover the group more effectively.

Also, with some teams that are that good, people retire, but ease some new blood in in their place. Say Jocko the troll is getting on in years, and has a nice nest egg stashed away. He's got a chummer that can fill his slot on the team, so he sends the chummer to the group for a test-run or two. Or Karl Kombatmage is finally retiring, and decides to let his student follow in those glorious footsteps he's laid down. An initiatory group formed within the team is a good way for the adepts and spellslingers to vet their replacement. If the guy can cut it, he's got teachers, and a support structure. If he can't, then he gets left out for the next sucker to try. And from what Kesslan says, the team was all that and a bag of chips. Frankly, if it was a team that was that good, then you've got folks that retired from running anywhere between 7-43 years ago.

And that's what contacts are for.

At the same time one can join a magic group and have absolutely no other ties to it's members. Magic group strictures tend to enforce co-operation.

Another good reason to make sure you know everyone in your group. After all, you don't want to swear a Fraternity stricture, then find out you've got the magical equivalent of Leroy Jenkins included in the group.

Still pending Kesslan's final decision on HMHVV-Infected characters, a couple of the builds I'm trying out are adepts, so the group thing could be viable. Haven't made a concrete choice yet.

I already indicated infected are not allowed in CG in the rules section. Infected tend not to work too well with groups of non infected. There's also the whole bit about how 90% of the world is then more or less out to kill you.

Ok so I think I have all the bases covered now.

Should be good, game intended for up to 6 PCs, which means those who have expressed interest so far are all able to grab a slot.

EDIT: As a note I will be looking for some one to act as the group team leader in an official capacity for both IC and OOC decisions.

That said infection, death, inhabitation, mutilation and betrayal are all on the table as possible outcomes once the game starts.

You have, in the CG rules section, a statement that says that Contacts cannot be worth more than 6 points. I assume this applies only to the "Free" contacts, gained through Chax3 free contact points, right? A contact could be worth more than 6, provided we spend real BP on them?

No. It's intended to be in general.

A level 6 connections contact is incredibly powerful, as such I wanted to eliminate those as CG contacts. At the same time, given that you've been forced to literally abandon your own lives and start over, I figured you wouldn't have anyone who would be a 'friend for life' yet, and any you did have, you had to loose contact with for their own safety. After all, if they really were that good of a friend, are you seriously going to put them in harms way like that when you have a chance to avoid doing so?

Quick check on the timeline: How long has it been since the job?

Crash 2.0 was in 2065, The job started a littel under 1 year prior to the crash and it's now 2071, so all told it's been roughly 6 and a half years, some of which would have been time spent going to ground and setting up the new identities etc.

Okay, I've got the background mostly set up, and Jagger and I have worked out an initiatory group to send to you. Do you want it posted here, or mailed to you when you open up character creation. Also, it's come to my attention that certain Qualities can bump skills to level six without you noticing. Are those skills counted in the cap, or not?

Faust: Kesslan's cap was for the actual Character Skill Points accumulated in your Skills expenditure. If there are things you can do to improve the skills beyond the cap of 5 (or 6, depending on how you're doing it) then that's a good thing! There are quite a few different ways to improve a skill beyond the build-caps, including Cyberware (reflex recorders, etc.), Adept Powers, and others. The more you can stack up, the more exciting that skill will be, and it's all acceptable!

Not a problem anymore. Did the juggling and it freed up a good chunk of points. Waiting on Kesslan to give the word on the initiation group.

Pm or post is fine. Post is probably better if anyone else who's magical wants in on it and is part of the group.

Also, keep in mind that 1 mil for lifestyle and 50m for gear is free money, not a spending cap. Your more than welcome to spend more on gear or lifestyle if you wish. The only limitation is the 50k for gear is only for gear (includes augs), and the one mil is for lifestyle only (which is enough for a pemanent high lifestyle)

Basically, there's the adage "Friends help you move, real friends help you move bodies." The Hidden Keepers are about helping you move the bodies, but once they do that, you're in. This group isn't about building great worldly power, or trying to get involved in politics, it's about helping each other, because if you don't you're screwed.
