Digit did not know why the other hacker hated him so. Perhaps because he attacked it. Yeah that made some kind of sense anyway he was under attack and had to defend against it. full defense

Pete gave a satisfied sigh as he watched Digit's icon fizzle and vanish, systematically picked apart of the Attack program. With that distraction dealt with, he switched off his Black Hammer, his icon turning to face Skuld. The little bear's face became a mask of annoyance, the color of the shirt shifting from yellow to red. This entire affair had been a protracted exercise in tedium. Pete looked forward to finishing it.
>>So, Skuld is it? It's just you and me, now. I have stopped running my Black IC. Must I boot you out of here too? Or will you back down?

Skuld watched the little bear with narrowed eyes. His taunting was well and truly getting under her skin. But when she felt the effects of the IC fade away, a wicked smile curled up the edges of her mouth. She let the threading she held in her mind fade away, and it drifted away like the last hummed notes of a song. She looked at the IC, which she had just been fighting. It was readying an attack against her again... Skuld mentally severed her connection, jacking out of the node and bypassing the need to defeat the IC. Let the bear do so, frag him.

The effect hit the technomancer like a hammer. Lying against cool vinyl of the seat in her rigger's cocoon, he back suddenly arched, straining against the restraints and padding that kept her safe. She was bleeding from her nose and ears, and coughing up thick red globs of coagulated fluid. The IC, coupled with the dumpshock and her exertions in the matrix all combined to attack her now. She fell back against the char, unconscious.

Pete watches Skuld's icon fade with a feeling of ambivalence. On the one hand, she was a formidable foe and fighting her was risky and dangerous. On the other hand, she was a formidable foe and he kind of wanted to see who would win.
He turned to the IC. The bear icon's claws elongated and sharpened. Time to finish it.

The next six seconds are a confused maelstrom as Pete pounded at the IC while protecting himself from counterattacks. His first strike was decisive, corrupting wide swaths of the IC and destabilizing most of its functions. The IC fought back, and stubbornly, but it was crippled and fighting against a superior combatant. It defended itself against the second hit, but its own cybercombat routines could not touch its AI opponent, though it came close. By Pete's third attack it was over, the IC dissolving into nothing, ripped apart by the unrelenting assault of malicious code.

As the IC faded, Pete floated his way to where Digit had derezzed, scooping up the dropped key. He went to the door.
