Jason eyed each of the team members he was going to be working with. Almost every body seemed to be getting to know one another. Feeling each other out. If he thought anything was funny he did not let it show. Watching there interactions lead him to believe that leadership would be called for. As there were others with tactical experience he decided that was not him. But if the dreck hit the fan it might be better if he did speak up. So at the bear minimum he should introduce himself. An he did just that. "Names Mamba" he said "As in the African reptile I'm an engineer and breech specialist. Mostly i make stuff go boom, but I'm proficient with all kinds of fire arms, hand to hand combat and well you get the picture you give me enough time to soak up the situation ill get you in." he looks at every one in kind his voice was level, even, and cold emotionless. He sat back. "Well Zee." he said. "Theirs the chip have a look." pointing to the chip on the table. He was not trying to be a jerk, but he wanted to get on with the show, and Zee was the hacker so who better to give analysis of a data chip.

Jack looked over at Mamba as he introduced himself. She listened as he described his abilities. She looked down at the chip he indicated, and looked over at Zee to pick it up.
- I love it when someone else takes the initiative... it makes sticking to the shadows much easier. She thinks to herself, allowing a slight grin to remain on her face, but keeping silent.

"Right, right, right," Zee grumbled at Mamba's unspoken rebuke, leaning across the table to slide the chip over. She picked it up and looked at it suspiciously. "I was hoping somebody else would plug it in... I hate dealing with these things, can't be bothered to transfer info wirelessly..." she continued complaining as she reached back to move her hair out of the way, exposing the port for her datajack. "But nooo... gotta plug it in, and sometimes they get cute and put all sorts of traps and stuff on them, ugh!" She shuddered slightly as she thought about the last time she'd stumbled upon a data bomb, but held still so she could slide the chip in.

"Okay, let's see what we've got to work with here," she said, pulling down her goggles and putting them in place before cracking her knuckles noisily. She unleashed her analyze program on the chip's node, searching for all files, evident and hidden, before scrubbing each of them down with a closer check for any unwelcome additions, like data bombs or spyware attachments. Once everything checked out, she forwarded the files to the others' commlinks, assuming they were running in active or passive mode, that is. Scanning them for hidden nodes was an easy enough task but she didn't feel like it. Easier just to tell them. "Heads up for incoming files~!" Zee announced in a sing-song voice.

<< 100MP Data...>>
<<Text File written in Japanese, auto translated to English>>
Mr. Jay,
We need a team of contract employees to recover a book that was taken from our facility. The name of the book isn't important being that it is written in a language that has been extinct for many, many generations. Here is a photo of the book <<insert Photo -the book looks to be bound in leather and have a burnt symbol across the cover. There is some strange lettering on the cover above the cymbol. The edges of the pages are black, and there is a large (Brass?) clasp holding the book closed.>>

It is inperative that your team knows that this book is not to be damaged. There is a creature/being/demon <<translation of previous word has multiple meanings>> trapped with in the pages of the book. If even one page gets damaged it will weaken the bonds the book holds over the creature/being/demon.

The book is thought to be on the third floor of the building. We could not pinpoint the location due to some warding that is around this floor of the building.

I am attaching the agreed upon payment of <<data deleted from source>> to hire the team and recover the book. Once completed they are to contact our pick up person, Mrs. Johnson at this number: 67t56u48fr6. A time will be set for pickup at the park over by the space needle.

I will attach a few files the team may find useful.

Sentinel looks over the relevant and available data with a slight frown. "Well. No word on what size the book is, though if we can figure out a general scale for it's size based on the photograph I can probably work up something that's still going to be a pretty nice and snug fit without damaging it." he pulls up the photo in question on his AR and looks it over some more, rotating the image around to try and get some sort of better feel for it. "Don't know I'd have the time to rig up something armoured though. Should be a breeze though to at least get some basic padding and a solid case."

Jack's speaks up, adding in her .02Y. "You'cud use an expanded-gas-reactor filler ta make sure that it fits nice and snug. Sumptum like that should work right nice." She looks over to Sentinel.
"Comtathinko'it, you'cud use summathat new foam-reaction filler, and it would be moderately bullet proof too." She nods a bit to herself.

After everyone else had finished perusing the files, Zee cleared her throat and read aloud a sentence. "The security assets and corporation that own this building are currently unknown..." She glanced around at the others and shook her head, causing some of the brass buckles on her overcoat to emit faint clinking noises. "I don't know about you but I don't like the sound of that! I think we should find out more about who we're gonna be pissing off here..." She called back up the map and examined it for a few seconds before speaking what was on her mind. "There's an empty building right next to our target, I wonder if we can't sneak in through, like, a ventilation shaft or something. Oh! And did anybody else notice that there's a police station a block away? That's going to be bad if we get into a shootout!" She blinked behind her blue lenses before sheepishly adding, "Not that we should be getting into shootouts or anything..."

A police building? Hurm... He thought about for a few minutes before responding. I do not believe this will be a problem. Everett is a rundown area, from what I have heard. It is doubtful that the police will bother us. Probably hear shoot outs from local gangs daily. As long as we do not get too close, we will most likely be fine. If not, then we'll need to run fast. I have a van, but it is not much for speed. If someone has a faster vehicle, they can take the package while the others take off in my van. That way, any pursuers will have to choose between the two targets... Maybe we should get two suitcases then...

Segments of an action trid were already appearing in Zee's mind as she saw the mission playing out. "Like a decoy! I can see it now, us having to drop the case, the bad guys grabbing it and laughing at the dumb shadowrunners only to open it and find out it's empty! Then cut to us in a van with the real case and... fade to black! It'll be awesome!" Something was still bugging her though, and she couldn't help but mull over the lack of information on who was in possession of the book. Did their employer's boss not know or not want the team to know? Either way, it seemed odd, and Zee intended to remedy the situation. Fortunately that was as easy as a Matrix search, and since she knew the address of the target building, it was something even an amateur could look up. That thought just made Zee search faster so as not to be beaten to it by one of the other people around the table. Her eyelids drooped as she felt the extra surge of magic push her mind to scour the depths of the Matrix for the data she needed.

"Huh, two cases... That does help with one of the problems. But I doubt any of us wants to give up our hands in a firefight for a second case... I sure don't. And, what about who owns the book, and who owns the building? 'Cause they might not be the same drek-heads..." Jack asked, tossing a wrench in the cogs. She was curious, and maybe Mr. Jay would be able to help out with those questions. She looks to him first, but the question was directed to the table, not him specifically.

Quote :
OOC: Rollan dice to find out who owns the building and info about the company (like what business they're in, how long they've owned the building, list of employees working in the building, and any other interesting tidbits of information).

The search of the owners of the building shows it is owned by a very small corporation who leases out property to other small corps. The bottom floor of this building is currently vacant, and the next three stories are from a small magic research group, partially funded through the Draco Foundation. Their research is supposed to be in creating a new spell that makes it possible for forensics mages to trace a criminal through the contact that they had with their victims. The corporation is the 3F Research group.

According to the public records, 3F Research Group is a non profit organization who's lack of progress has drawn criticism from their donors. The Draco Foundation has cut their funding by more than 50% in the last three years alone.

There are no records as to the current number of employees or their current year financial situation. The search does show that if they don't get some kind of break through in the near future, their funding will be gone.

"Wellll... I dunno about whoever owns the book, but since the book is in the building, I figure we oughta know more about who owns the building. Plus, I don't have a clue how to look up who owns the book. I could totally see that going over well on a conspiracy theory chatroom. I'd be like, 'Say, do you guys know who owns a book with a demon that could destroy the world?' And then they'd be all 'Ares! Horizon! Evo! The UCAS government! Every dragon ever! Ancient evil undead space zombie ghoasts!'" A ping from her implanted commlink alerted Zee her search had finished, and she mulled over the results before forwarding the info to the others. "Well that's boring," she commented on the find. "A 'non profit organization'? Probably not going to have very good security... although I wonder why there'd be an evil book of demonic doom in a place that deals with forensics magic..."

"Well it would make sense in a forensics lab of some sort if it happened to be involved in some sort of murder and is considered a potential clue to a murder." Sentinel points out. "Though the non for proffit angle sounds kinda odd." he shrugs "I suppose it could be some sort of setup for a tax shelter so the corp behind it doesn't have to pay so much. Oh sure we send all our stuff to an 'independent lab' kind of deal. Which means we are probably not hitting who we think we are."

Or they want people to think that is why it is there. Who would hit a tax shelter? No one. It is perfect for their purposes. I've seen something like this before. Set up something that looks like a dummy business, and actually hide something there. If these people are aware of the book's importance, then they'll likely have it hidden. That means we'll have to hunt for it. We will need scanners for this job. His slow, deliberate voice sounds certain, with no trace of hesitance.

Jason was not happy, when the police angle reared its head. He was hoping this would be clean, in and out. Did it ever go down like that. Hmph he grunted. Then took another look at the plans. There was no point in even entering the bottom floor since there would likely be some security, but nothing else. So he considered entering through the roof. He said nothing though. They really were not up to that part yet. The team was still gathering intel. So he kept to plotting... turning Scenarios over and over in his head.... but he said nothing just stared at the plans and listened to the team talk.

"Well I don't know of any 'scanner' that can pick up a book. As to the whole police angle, that's kinda tricky, but nothing a machine gun, 400 rounds of ammo and some milspec armor can't take care of I'm sure so long as we don't sit around long enough for SWAT to show up. Then I may have a few issues." Sentinel says with a slight frown. "Course ideally it won't come to that, but I'm not hedging my bets on it given the close proximity."

"Yeah... that's sorta how it uzully work out, huh?" Jack pipes in, her voice sounding like ice water pouring into a glass.
"Don't spose you could work out who the biggest donors are? Other than Draco..." She looks to Zee.

From Alex: "I was thinking Ul-tre-su-nak.
"That aint a bad idear... But yeah, gettin' one uzully turns out to be the tough question. Idunno even where to start lookin'." She looks back to the building.
"Ya'll got any plans for gettin into the building?" Jack asked, staring at the blueprints. "The only obvious entrances are the street, and the roof. Spose the basement is worth lookin into?"

"Um, oh, that's a, uh... good idea..." The others had jumped on the idea of the business being a front for something more nefarious, but the thought hadn't even occurred to Zee. Not for the first time that night, she felt childish and out of place. But she knew one way she could prove her worth: her mad hacking skills. Finding financial information about a non-profit organization was far more difficult than accessing it for a public one, but at least this wasn't a triple A corporation. Still, finding out just who exactly was sponsoring the 3F Research Group would probably mean tracking down references to a target node and then going medieval on their security to get the data, unless she caught a lucky break and managed to snag the info just floating about. Either way, this kind of in depth probing was a little on the suspicious side, and Zee decided it was time to move on, leaving her old life behind her.

With a simple mental command, Zee disappeared from the Matrix, never to be seen again. Or at least, not with the same Access ID. The Spoof program rewrote her digital address, instantly severing all of her open connections. To an outside observer, it appeared as though she simply ceased to exist. For a very brief moment, Zee had to put up with the uncomfortable silence of being disconnected. All of her windows were blank or minimized, and even her AR overlay faded away, leaving her feeling naked and rather exposed. But then the Spoof was done, her new ID ready to claim, and she jumped at the chance to log back on. The cute anime representation of her shimmered back into existence as she reestablished her previous subscriptions, only seemingly from a new device. Now time to get to work!

OOC: I'm going to do the 4 for 1 trade in on the spoof test (Hacking 4 (6) + Spoof 3 = 9, trade in for 2 hits which is the threshold for changing access ID). And then rollan to look up financial information about donors for the 3F Research Group.

Knowing that 3F Reasurch Group's biggiest donor was the Draco Foundation, you find a trail from them to the IRS's node about the donation of funds. And fund transfers that are to the group's Orbital account.

There have been a few deposits into the account, but you can't make out the names of depositers from outside the bank.

You find a total of 6 different depositers. Each carying it's own digital ID, for 6 unique trails.
