Matrix Actions and Resonance

A friend of mine is playing a technomancer and it says he can use his resonance on all of his matrix action...but whats a matrix action exactly? ok im pretty sure and data search, hacking ect benefits from it be he thinks he also gets it with his armor complexe form when tanking damage in the matrix or attack am not quite certain it does a little clarification would be appreciated
