which vision enhancement is going to be best for pitch black? ultrasound? thermal? I'd sort of expect thermal to be all uniform....

Ultrasound and Thermographic are the same: -3. Ultrasound will act much like normal vision except there is no color, which makes distinguishing stationary things difficult in some circumstances. Thermographic vision has similar problems, though it makes it very easy to see things that give off body heat.

Survival kits have four light sources: matches, a lighter, a very small LED flashlight, and three glow sticks. The LED will eliminate vision penalties for whatever you point it at, leaving the rest of the area either in low-light or full darkness. Glow sticks give you low light for an entire area. Glow sticks last for three hours, the LED lasts for two (it's very small).

You cannot see the tower without poking your head out of the cave. Considering why you ran in here in the first place, such an action may be less than advisable.

Are we unable to back out of the cave, now that we can hear the DESTRUCOPTER going to town? Or has the cave-in blocked us entirely?

You could back out of the cave, but I'm not sure why you would. The coptor, for one thing, is firing at the West Tower, while you're on the East side. Plus, the ledge is a shooting gallery, while getting through the current tunnel will take you to the base of the tower, which would put you in a position of greater advantage.

He's covered by the brick and mortar wall as well as the remains of what was probably a concrete porch. You can catch glimpses of him and his gun, but the line of fire sucks.

Perception rolls.

The first is aimed at the shadows themselves, albeit without much hope of success. Intuition 5 + Perception 4 (Visual +2)

The second two rolls are for the general area, respectively.

And I managed to fark it up, as I put '2' instead of '1' in the roll, so I grabbed the top three results to post.

5 for first (Visual perception on Shadows to recognize some shape in the flickering images - half-hoping there's nothing but Cram and paranoia)

3, 3 for second (Perception, Visual Perception)

No glitch.
