- And I also point out that something similar happened to Shadowrun before. Indeed, twice before, as both FanPro and FASA before it collapsed under the weight of people not paying debts and having bags with dollar bill signs vanish mysteriously in the middle of the night. It's somewhat... poetic considering the subject matter of the game itself.
This is both funny and sad, ironic and terrible at the same time. But mostly sad.

| Sad indeed. I am hoping they hang on long enough to release the books that are currently in the editing phase. I have been dieing to get my hands on the Corporate handbook. | |

| Hmm. Why don't we form our own company, by the IP rights and release our very own 5th edition? I volunteer to be the one to steal the 800,000 this time around. | |

| Yeah, steal it, watch the company sink, steal away and live comfortable in another country. Spain is nice... | |

I was actually thinking Belize. Its a neat country (hence the setting of my run). The only latin american former-english colony, so largely English speaking and less of the anti-gringo bias then alot of other places. Lots of carribean coastline. And loads of maya ruins which I've always found interesting.

| Well this is lame.
They seemed to be doing so well with the books too. I mean sure they had a few revisions here and there but every company does, and at least they don't cut and paste information repeatedly (And often incorrectly) like Palladium Books.

| From the thread "Second, the stoppage of a small, select list of Shadowrun books has nothing to do with the license for Shadowrun, which Catalyst still holds. Instead, the halt to sales is due to on going negotiations between Catalyst and its freelancers. We’re moving quickly and thoroughly to resolve this situation to mutual satisfaction, so the community can have access to these great Shadowrun books in short order once more." Looks like we will be waiting for a bit for some material. | |

| Well if Catalyst can some how recover from what happened I'd think it would be worth the wait.
They seem to have been doing quiet well until this happened.

| Things just keep taking a turn for the worse. http://forums.dumpshock.com/index.php?showtopic=30323for those of you who don't feel like shifting through that thread, several of the people who write the shadowrun books have withheld copyright, or plan canceled their contracts with Catalyst. Which means none of their material can be printed until they or paid, or in some cases almost entire books might have to be rewritten from scratch. Ancient History, one of the major writers, has stated that even if paid he wouldn't sell his material to Catalyst. | |

| These posts are getting more and more depressing. I know I probably shouldn't but I can't help but be mad at Ancient History. I dunno the real situation, obviously, but Jason seems nice and AH just comes off as way too mean. | |

| I can't blame AH. A large number of freelancers have been treated like crap, and it seems like when he voiced his opinion of things he go banned from the freelancer board. This whole thing is nobodies fault but management. | |

| Looking at things on the board it does look like AH lost his temper a little, but his reasoning (given what we know of it) seems sound so far. You cant expect people to work for free, and it sounds like that is exactly what was more or less happening at Catalyst. "Oh we'll pay you when we turn a profit."
Meanwhile it's very much true that if it's copyrighted in one book the writers can't turn around and sell/use their work for another company if Catalyst goes under and the franchise is taken over by a new company.
